Forest Haven: The Sacred Grove

Link has arrived at a sacred archipelago of wooded islands. However, the two biggest islands contrast greatly. One is a sacred place where the spirit of the earth, the Great Deku Tree, is said to reside, while the other is a dark, foreboding, gnarled place, inhabited by dangerous monsters. Hopefully, Link will not have to travel there, and instead just get the second pearl from the Deku Tree without incident.

When you arrive at the Forest Haven, the King of Red Lions will automatically park where you should disembark. However, there is one more thing you should do before exploring the haven...
Sail around to the left of where the King of Red Lions originally parked. Between the isles, you should find Fishman jumping around. Go ahead and get Forest Haven's chart from him.
NOW disembark and go up the incline. It'll only be a second before you run into the island's first enemy: a Boko Baba. These are meat-eating plant monsters with a design so colorful that you'll think it came straight out of a Gay Day parade.
Before you attempt to defeat it, use your Grappling Hook to steal a Boko Baba Seed from it. These seeds are yet another item stored in the Spoils Bag, and their use will become apparent soon.
To defeat the baba, simply throw a few sword slashes at it. However, slashes won't be entirely enough. You'll have to perform combo slashes, which you probably do anyway. When Link uses a strike in a combo that attacks the baba from the underside, it will become erect (ooh, I said it!), facing straight up into the sky. This is your chance to hack at its stalk. It'll instantly be defeated, and its stalk will transform into a Boko Stick.
Continue to follow the path up, defeating several Boko Babas along the way, until you reach the end of the path at the top of the waterfall. To cross, use your Grappling Hook to swing from the branch above the waterfall onto the small rock islet at the water's edge.
An enemy will spring forth from the distant water. If you try to swim to it, the current will wash you away, and if you get close to it, it will duck back underwater. It's a freshwater Octorok, the oldest enemy in the Zelda series. To defeat it, simply use your shield to block the spiked nut it spits at you. It will travel back to the Octorok and kill it. You can also use your sword to knock the nut back.
Now carefully hop across the stream until you get to where the path ends. Another Octorok will spring up from the pool at the river's source. Defeat is the same way you did the first.
Now, use your Grappling Hook again to swing to the river source. Don't worry--the water's not deep enough to wash you away.
Follow the river as it continues to extend inside the hollow tree that is the Forest Haven. You'll have to follow the river, climbing up small waterfalls, until you're up high enough to get onto the grass.
Now approach the giant, central tree. Look up to discover that it's an actual sentient being! Of course, the Deku Tree is now a helluva lot uglier than it was in Ocarina of Time. In any case, as you get closer to it, a scene will show you tons of ChuChus crawling over its face. Now THAT'S some acne problem.
To pop those zits, roll into the Deku Tree's side. This will knock all of the ChuChus off. All in all, there are about a dozen of them, half red and half green.
Before you go about defeating the ChuChus, be sure to steal as much jelly from them using the Grappling Hook as possible. This will also be the first time you get Green Chu Jelly. It's just like Red Chu Jelly, except it creates Green Potions, which restore magical energy, which you'll be able to use soon. Afterwards, take out the ChuChus as you would normally. If you take too long, they'll climb back onto the tree.
After the ChuChus are all defeated, the Great Deku Tree will speak to you. Although, I question if anything so ugly should be called 'great'. However, he turns out to be the only spirit who can speak English, so be glad for that.
Before long, the Koroks, the race who lives here, show up. They're little wooden munchkins that were once the Kokiri from Ocarina of Time. Great...Well, you may be thinking they're better than dealing with a bunch of brats, but the Koroks are so freaky that it really doesn't matter.
Just as it seems like the Deku Tree is going to give you the pearl and send you on your merry way, one of the Koroks comes to tell the Deku Tree that Makar, the Korok who performs the annual festival, has gotten lost in the Forbidden Woods, that scary, gnarled island that you may have noticed outside. And guess who the tree, for some reason, thinks should go rescue him? Why yes, it's you! Didn't see that coming. But to get to the Forbidden Woods, you'll need the magical Deku Leaf, and in a fit of constipation, the Deku Tree will release one from his branches for you. Unfortunately, you have to climb up into the branches to get it. ¬_¬
Before you continue onwards, go through the short tunnel on top of the hill next to the Deku Tree. There, you'll meet Hollo, one of the Koroks who stays on the island during the year. He can make a special potion if you bring him Boko Baba Seeds, but not until you gain the ability to use magical energy.
Now go behind the Deku Tree. You've probably noticed the glowing fireflies by now, but flying amongst the weeds and bushes is a firefly that glows brighter than the rest, actually illuminating the immediate area around it.
Use one of your Empty Bottles to capture the Forest Firefly. This will be used later to complete the game's most grueling sidequest.
Now go around the Deku Tree's other side. You'll find a flowering bud next to one of the Koroks. This is a Baba Bud, and when you hop inside, it will shoot you high into the air.
As you are launched upwards, push the control stick in the direction you want to travel. There are many Baba Buds held up by long stalks, and you're supposed to land in each one, progressively traveling skyward.
Eventually, you'll rocket onto a small canopy of leaves sturdy enough for Link to stand on. From there, use the Grappling Hook on a branch to swing to the next Baba Bud.
Continue traveling through the Baba Buds. There are several more before you reach the canopy where the Deku Leaf is.
Eventually, you'll reach the Deku Leaf. This item allows Link to blow a gust of air at his foes. Much more importantly, however, is the fact that it will let you fly through the air. However, flying costs magical energy, which you now have a small supply of. Come to think of it, what was stopping one of the Koroks from flying up here and getting the leaf for you? Bastards.
Jump off the branch towards the high cliff across from you. As soon as you leave solid ground, use the Deku Leaf. Link will use it to catch the air. Just push the control stick in the direction of the ledge, and you will gradually float towards it. Once it's safe to land, either let him drift to the ground, or to save magical energy, press 'A' to drop.
From there, jump in the Baba Bud and launch skyward. At the peak of your rocket, open up the Deku Leaf again and fly towards the ledge across from your position. This is the highest ledge of the grove. Try not to fall down, because it's a long way back up.
Once you make it to the ledge, cut some of the grass to discover magic jars that will restore your magical energy. These are just like Recovery Hearts, but for your magic meter. They come in two varieties: large and small, with the small being more common. Of course, if you didn't notice before, Baba Buds also restore a little magic each time you hop in one. Now, go outside.
