Zulan
Once you get to Zulan, you'll
almost certainly notice the ungodly winter weather. Take the time to talk
to everyone, upgrade your equipment, and then grab the Star Light on the
far West side of town, a Healing Nut just below the Mayor's House, and
the Plate Armor on the 2nd Floor of the Mayor's house. When you're ready,
talk to the Mayor.
He explains the weather is being caused
by a monster in the Zulan Mountains. A group of villagers went to stop
the beast, but they came back gravely wounded. The situation is also more
complex cause the Mayor's granddaughter is sick and her parents went into
the Mountains to get a special healing grass and haven't come back yet.
When the Mayor asks you to help, choose "That beast is history!"
to help them out. Lucia then starts arguing that the party cannot waste
the time helping here, and she takes off and leaves. Hiro starts to chase
after her, but she refuses to reconsider. Once the party is back together,
head into the Zulan Mountains from the Northwest side of town after saving
your game.
Zulan Mountain is a great
place to Level build right now, and I can almost guarantee you that you'll
at least leave once or twice to back into town to use the Goddess Statue
so you can save your items for the battle at the end of this area.
From the entrace, walk Northeast to find
steps up to the next plateau. Walk Northeast from here to find another
set of steps up. It's about this point that you'll see an iced-over cave
entrance. Ruby will melt the ice for you, and you can enter. (*Note: there
are also 3 iced-over caves that are traps holding monsters. You fight
them for experience or pass them up. It's your choice. To see exactly
where they are, check out the Map).
When you enter the newly opened cave, walk
East. You'll find a chest holding 2000 S. Continue North and East to find
some steps up. When you reach the top, opt to immediately take the next
set of steps to obtain a Healing Nut from a chest. Walk back down one
level and continue east to find the exit back out onto the mountain side.
Once outside again, walk West to find the
steps. Turn East and pass up the first iced over portion, as it's a trap
(unless you want to fight), and continue to the second iced over entrance
and enter it after Ruby melts it.
Upon entering, follow the path West and
then back again to the East after going up the steps. Once you reach the
second pair of steps, the path heads West again. Follow the path, and
make sure to grab the chest along the way to snag a Power Crest. Continue
West, go down the stairs and exit back out onto the mountain outside.
From here, walk East first to find a chest
holding the Water Staff. Now walk all the back to the West to find a set
of stairs, passing the iced-over area you come across. Head up the steps
and walk Northeast to have Ruby melt the ice and enter the cave here.
After entering, follow the path East. Make
sure to grab both chests. The first for a Barrier Ring and the second
for a Phoenix Ring. Exit yet again back onto the Mountain.
Simply walk West from the cave to find the
steps. Take them up and walk East to the final cave entrance. Be sure
you SAVE YOUR GAME before continuing into this cave entrance.
When you enter this cave, you'll find yourself
on Zulan Mountain's Peak. When you walk Left, the party gets buried in
an avalanche. Not good. Just as Hiro is about to pass on, you hear Lucia
calling your name. Once Lucia saves your ass, walk up the Peak Trail and
collect the rest of your party members. Lucia will heal them as well for
full HP and MP, so don't waste any items. (If you're going to Save your
game here, make sure you save in a different file so that if you get your
ass kicked by the Missing Link, you can load the other one you just made
and still get your HP and MP restored once you've put on a couple Levels.)
I also suggest arranging your battle order in the following manner: Hiro
in the front lower left, Jean in the front upper left, and the rest evenly
along the far right from top to bottom (this let's you make one of the
Missing Link's attacks nearly ineffective). When you're ready, walk North
and get ready to fight the Missing Link.

The Missing Link
has 3 attacks. The 1st attack, is a Super
Punch he uses on a character, paralyzing them and hurting
anyone within range for shock damage (hence the battle order above), and
can be expected when he starts beating his chest with his hands This attack
is brutal. The 2nd attack, can be identified
when he is hunched over with his fists on the ground. He uses his Primal
Scream causing an avalanche that hits everyone for big damage.
The 3rd attack, can be identified when he's
visibly INHALING air. He causes a Snow Sheild
to appear about him. You can't hurt him during this time, and he won't
attack. So make SURE you use this precious time to recover and heal up.
The Missing Link can be a tough fight, but
you should win easily if you stay on track with the Healing Process. Here's
what to do: Hiro should use
Poe Sword every round. Ronfar
should keep everyone healthy.
Resist the urge to attack using Anger Dice. Jean
should simply attack, since all her
magic won't be effective, or help Ronfar in the healing
area if he falls behind. Lemina
should cast Flame Shot every round.
If you're careful about healing, you'll win with no problems. Also note, that starting from this point in the game, Lucia will take a MUCH MORE ACTIVE role during the battle process, such as Attacking, Healing, etc... about damn time.
Once you beat the Missing Link, you find an unconscious person lying in a nearby pile of snow. Walk up to her and Lucia revives her in the same fashion she did your party...only to find she has amnesia. She does have the SnowSprout Grass however. The scene then shifts back to the Mayor's house. The baby's fever was cured by the Grass, but Maria still doesn't know who she is. When you attempt to leave, Maria decides she's gonna follow you, but you convince her to stay and take care of her baby until her memory returns. YAY! Leave Zulan and walk Southwest to Meribia.
