Statistics & Skills Your statistics and skill levels are of vital importance in this game; you won't get very far without improving them. This section describes what each of them is used for, and how you can improve them (with the best way to do so listed first). Statistics Strength: Affects the damage dealt when attacking with a weapon, maximum Health, and the amount of weight you can carry without being encumbered. Improved by: attacking with a weapon in combat, working in the castle stables, playing Dag-Nab-It, practising your Climbing skill. Intelligence: Affects maximum MP, the effectiveness of your spells, and the success rate of Parry, Dodge and Pick Locks. Improved by: casting spells, playing Mage's Maze, picking locks, successfully parrying or dodging in combat. Agility: Affects the speed of your character in combat, maximum Stamina, and the success rate of Stealth and Pick Locks. Improved by: successfully parrying or dodging in combat, attacking with a weapon in combat, playing Dag-Nab-It, practising your Stealth skill, picking locks. Vitality: Affects maximum Health, maximum Stamina, and the rate at which you regain Health and Stamina naturally. Improved by: receiving damage in combat, working in the castle stables, playing Dag-Nab-It, attacking with a weapon in combat. Luck: Affects the success rate of all your skills. Improved by: successfully using any of your skills, playing Dag-Nab-It, playing Mage's Maze. Skills Weapon Use: Affects your chance to hit when attacking with a weapon. Improved by: attacking with a weapon in combat. Parry: Affects your chance to successfully block an opponent's attack. Since only Fighters have shields, this skill is useless to Magic Users and Thieves. Improved by: parrying in combat. Dodge: Affects your chance to successfully dodge an opponent's attack. Improved by: dodging in combat. Stealth: Affects your chance to avoid random enemy encounters when sneaking. Improved by: sneaking, though it works best if you stay in one spot and repeatedly alternate between sneak and walk. Pick Locks: Affects your chance to successfully open doors or chests using lock picks. Since only Thieves have lock picks, this skill is useless to Fighters and Magic Users. Improved by: picking locks, obviously. When your skill is over 40, you can use 'pick nose' to quickly boost this skill. No really, I'm not kidding. :) Don't try doing that with a skill level lower than 40 though! (or at least be sure to save before you do) Throwing: Affects your chance to hit and the damage dealt when throwing rocks or daggers. Improved by: playing Dag-Nab-It, throwing rocks or daggers. Climbing: Affects your chance to succeed when attempting to climb things. Improved by: climbing things, duh. Here's some places you can practice: the tree outside the Healer's hut, the Spielburg town gate, the Spielburg Castle walls, the wall in the back of the alley in Spielburg, and the rocks near the waterfall. Magic: Affects maximum MP and the effectiveness of your spells. Improved by: casting spells. This is an overall statistic, governing all of your spells. Casting a spell may also raise the skill level of the spell you're casting, which increases the effectiveness of that particular spell only, but to a greater degree. You can practice Zap, Fetch, Flame Dart, and Calm anywhere in the forest, simply by casting them. A good place to practice Open, Trigger and Detect Magic is at the waterfall. Open, Fetch, Trigger and Flame Dart can also be practiced by playing Mage's Maze. Your skill in Dazzle can only be improved by casting it when an enemy is around. Health, MP & Stamina Health: You die when your Health is reduced to 0. You cannot directly improve your maximum Health: its value is the total of 1/3rd of your Strength added to 2/3rds of your Vitality. MP: Casting spells uses up MP. You cannot directly improve your maximum MP: its value is the total of 1/3rd of your Intelligence added to 2/3rds of your Magic skill. If your Magic skill is 0, your maximum MP will always remain 0. Stamina: Fighting, running, throwing, climbing... all strenuous activity depletes your Stamina. Your Health will begin to drop if you attempt anything strenuous while your Stamina is 0. You cannot directly improve your maximum Stamina: its value is the total of half your Agility added to half your Vitality. |
