General Information on all magic-Magic is a unique type of Tech in SaGa
Frontier, in which you can buy some Techs and have to learn others.
To learn some spells of certain magic types, you must obtain (Wa na
naaaa!) …"The Gift". In order to gain "The Gift" for certain magic,
there is a certain requirement that must be met for each one. some requirements
are completely different than they are for other magic though. "The
Gift" is only required to learn certain spells of a certain type of
magic, but it is still possible to use magic without "The Gift", as
long as you can buy the spell. There are 12 different magics in SaGa
Frontier; all of them are opposites to another type of magic. It is
not possible to have "The Gift" for two opposite magics at the same
time with one person (There is ONE exception, as you will find out).
Here is a list of magic and opposites:
Arcane-Summons the power of the Tarot. To become a Miss Cleo wannabe,
you must obtain the 4 Arcane Tarots. The Gold Card is in Baccarat, the
Grail Card is in Yorkland, the Saber Card is in Wakatu, and the Shield
Card is in IRPO.
Rune-Summons the power of the Runes. To master Rune magic, you must
obtain the 4 Runes. The Freedom Rune is in Despair, the Hide Rune is
in Koorong, the Victory Rune is in Shrike (More specifically Mu's Tomb),
and the Vitality Rune is in Tanzer.
Light-Summons the power of Light. To obtain Light Magic, you must go
through the Luminous Labyrinth (in Luminous, of course!).
Shadow-Summons the power of the Shadows, I guess. To obtain Shadow Magic,
you must enter the Shadow region of Omble (You can reach Omble from
Luminous).
Space-Calls upon the powers of Space and Gravity. Only one person in
the world can possess the gift of Space Magic, and initially, it is
held by Kylin, so go kill him, buy some from him, or befriend him.
Time-Uses the power of Time. Only one person can possess the gift of
Time Magic, and it is initially held by a Mystic named Time Lord (Mystics
have weird names, but even a Mystic mommy has to be kind of Cuckoo to
name their son Time Lord! "My name is Time Lord Jones!" …sorry.), so
if you want it, go kill him, buy some of the sucky ones from him, or
befriend him, whichever you prefer.
Realm-A Magic known by the residents of the Magic Kingdom. The only
way to possess this gift is to be from the Magic Kingdom.
Mystic-A Magic known by the Mystics. Only Mystics can possess the gift
(Obviously).
Mind-A Magic...of...the Mind...which you obtain...by passing this...Mind...Test...OK
OK, I forgot the details exactly, but you take this "Test" at a building
called "Dojo" in Kyo.
Evil-Magic that is, well, Evil. There is no way to obtain the gift for
Evil magic with any character in the game, however there is a character
that you can get that knows some Evil Magic.
Life-The Magic of Life. It is obtained by possessing the gifts of Light
and Shadow Magic simultaneously. Only one person in the game can do
this, so don't go through the trouble of trying to figure it out. Please.
Mirage-An odd form of Mystic Magic that Summons Phantom Beasts. This
gift cannot be acquired, however there is one character that has the
gift already, and is the only person in the game that has Mirage Magic.
...So there you have it. Now here are the ways to acquire "The Gift"
for all the Magics that require such an explanation, along with a list
of Spells and explanations.
Arcane
Gold Card-Go to Baccarat and inside the casino. Find a lady in a Purple
Bunny Suit and you will both see a Gnome walk by, and you two will
follow it to the next room. Proceed to follow it all the way up, and
you will see the Gnome do down the elevator. Go down a floor or two
and use the elevator on that floor to go down to the parking lot.
head for the manhole that leads to the sewer and a girl will stop
you and ask you if she can join your party. She will reveal herself
as Emelia/The girl in the Bunny Outfit. (SIDE NOTE: You should definitely
let her join, as she learns quickly and can potentially be good at
anything, kind of like Monica from Romancing SaGa 3, or, that's how
Monica is for me) After meeting Emelia, head down into the sewers
and look for the hideout of the Gnomes. Once you find them, they tell
you that they will exchange the Gold Card for more Gold. To do this,
acquire 4 Gold Ingots (You can buy them at Nelson), but do not put
any more than 4 into your inventory; they will take ALL the gold you
have, however, the minimum is 4 pieces.
Grail Card-In one part of Yorkland, there is a whole community of
people who make alcoholic beverages. In that place, go from house
to house, asking someone inside the house about the Grail Card. The
people will insist that you drink some of their wine first. after
talking to everyone, the last person will tell you that it is in the
swamp. Now just go through the swamp the the little shrine and get
the Grail Card. "It's in the middle of the swamp. so watch your step".
Saber Card-First things first, you cannot go to Wakatu without traveling
there with someone native to there, so let's find a guy from Wakatu. In
the southern area of Koorong, there is a skeleton standing around.
Talk to him, and he will tell you about a dude that cut a rope with
a pipe, and how, based off of that, he knows that he is from Wakatu
(Sounds kind of silly to me). Your main character will ask about him,
and he will tell you that his name is Gen, and that he hangs out in
the bar at Scrap, and drinks all the time. Go to Scrap and talk to
him, and eventually, he will join you to take you to Wakatu(Head there
from Koorong). There are lots of neat treasures inside the palace
at Wakatu; but I will not go over them. Eventually, you will reach
the top of the mansion, and there will be 3 images on the wall, of
3 images that are randomly switching (like a slot machine). To get
the Saber Card, they must all land on the Sword image. The trick is
to press "O" when you hear the sound of the Swords.
Shield Card-To get the Shield Card, go to IRPO, and ask the receptionist
about it. Then a police officer named Fuse says that he wants some
help with something before he gives your party the Shield card.
He will take you to a Mountain in Mosperiburg to get a flower that
only grows on the top of that mountain (Fuse will join you here).
Here, there are lots of neat treasures, and there is a monster you
can get in your party, but I will not go over those things. Once
you reach the top, you will be attacked by a Firebird, Suzaku. I
recommend having your characters in the 400-500 HP range to fight
this battle. Suzaku has a fire barrier, so be careful when fighting
it. If you lose, you will net get "Game Over", however, you will
have to try again, and Fuse will leave your party. (SIDE NOTES:
In Blue's quest, you can use the region map the leave the place,
and Fuse will remain in your party. In Red's quest, Fuse eventually
has to join your party, so if you wait until then to get the Shield
Card, you can go to IRPO, and he will just GIVE it to you. Cool,
huh?)

Rune
Freedom Rune-In northern Koorong, there is a lady standing by a building
(more specifically, a restaurant). She knows the way to Despair, however,
you won't know to ask her (the event won't be triggered, I believe)
unless you talk to the informer guy in the southern part of town (he
has purple hair). Ask him about Despair, and he will tell you to talk
to the girl standing next to the restaurant. Now if you talk to her
(when searching for the Runes), your main character will ask about
Despair, and she will take you. She will now be revealed as Annie.
go through Despair and find the Rune. I do not know the specifics,
however, I do have a little advice…Do not let the guards see you or
else you will get "Game Over" automatically. also, the boss of Despair,
Ankheg, is fairly tough; have your characters around the 300-350 HP
range at least. (SIDE NOTES: Emelia already has the Freedom Rune;
recall that her first dungeon took place in Despair, and that she
was pardoned by obtaining the Freedom Rune. In Riki's scenario, if
you intend to learn Rune Magic, you must start the Rune Magic quest
before going to get the Hermit Ring, which is located in Despair.)
Hide Rune-In northern Koorong, there is a way into the backstreets
which leads to the sewer (the entrance spot is to the far lef,t as
I recall). Eventually the sewers will take you to the Koorong port;
however there is another path that leads to a mountain. At the end
is the boss fight (I do not recall what the boss is, however he is
not too strong; have your characters at around 150-200 HP at least).
After defeating the boss, you will obtain the Hide Rune. (SIDE NOTES:
In any scenario, if you go to Mosperiburg and talk to Virgil (the
lady inside the palace), answer "no" to her two questions, and, in
her anger, she will teleport you right into the middle of mountain!
This saves a lot of time. In Blue's quest, you can recruit Dr. Nusakan
and Liza to search for the Hide Rune. Dr Nusakan is in the building
in the southern backstreet, and Liza is in the restaurant, as long
as you have recruited Roufas at Mu's Tomb.)
Victory Rune-Go to Shrike, and when you arrive, go to Mu's Tomb. The
Victory Rune is in there, and as long as you have the Rune Magic quest
activated, you can enter the dungeon. There are lots of goodies inside,
so take your time. The Boss is pretty tough, so be in at least the
250-300 HP range. You will Obtain the Rune upon defeating the boss.
(SIDE NOTES: You can recruit Roufas at the Tomb if you want, he is
hanging out in the Tomb, head left after you enter.)
Vitality Rune-The Vitality Rune is in Tanzer. Tanzer is monster, by
the way; to get inside of Tanzer, go to Koorong, and from there head
to a common town (Manhattan, Devin, Shrike, etc.), and you will most
likely be sent there automatically (whether or not it will happen
will be verified by an odd looking ship flying you to your destination).
Once in there, a dude named Fei-On will show you around. He will eventually
show you the way to the Vitality Rune (he will join you at this point)
The boss is a bunch of slimes guarding the Rune. You can easily take
on these bosses in the 100-200 HP range as long as you use your strongest
Techs, and be a little strategic. when all the slimes are defeated,
"Touch" the Vitality Rune with a character (scroll left and right
on the attack menu to find it; by the way, this is what requires strategy,
because the slimes regenerate, and if they're all alive, you cannot
touch the Rune). Once you touch the Rune, the fight will end, and
Tanzer will spit you out.

Light
Light Magic is the easiest Magic to obtain (out of the magics that
require trials to receive "The Gift"). Go to Luminous, and to the
left is a lady who will ask you if you want to "Challenge" the Luminous
Labyrinth. Say "Yes" if you want to learn it (I'll assume that's why
you're reading this), and you will be teleported to the Luminous Labyrinth.
The way to advance is have the light touch the end of the path in
the room that you're in by messing with the mirrors. When you get
to the third room, there are many reflectors and prism thingies that
change the color of the lights. to exit the Labyrinth, you need to
make the light white again and shine it into the exit (the exit is
located in the top center). if you shine other colors into the exit
and search it, other things will happen. If the light is…
Red-Battle
Blue-Battle
Yellow-400 Credits
Purple-Sanctuary Stone
Light Blue-Moonlight Robe

If it is, tell me what the prize is. Once you exit, you will have
the gift of Light Magic.(SIDE NOTES: Shadow Magic users and Monsters
(and maybe Mecs, I forget) cannot enter the Labyrinth.)

Shadow
Go to Luminous, and to the East, there is a lady who will ask if you
want to enter "The Shadow Region, Omble". Say "Yes", and you will
be teleported there. Something semi-important to know is that only
the shadows of battles here are really tough if you go in at low levels,
so if you are planning on avoiding them not that they are not represented
by their shadows, but are directly in front of their shadows. Near
the end, there is a very small, crowded room with the shadow of all
the main characters of the game inside. If you touch a shadow, it
will run to the room on the other side, where you have to touch it
again. The trick is to touch the shadow of the main character that
you are using. Go to the other room and touch your shadow(If you picked
the wrong shadow, you will have to fight a monster). If you touch
your shadow, it will run into the next room. Follow it in there and
fight it; the boss fight is your group, with all their skills and
stats. Just play it smart; you never know when they'll do something
smart. Afterwards you will be teleported back to Luminous. …With shadow
magic. (SIDE NOTES: At the very beginning of Omble, there is a shadow
who calls himself Silence. If you offer to help him, the Shadow of
Silence will join you. When you exit Omble, talk to the man in the
corner of the room, and he will join you(That man is Silence; as his
name implies, he is a mute.)

To get space magic, head to Devin. To the east, there is a super-duper

a building in the north; to open it, press the confirm button at the
center (I mention this because there is no door). Talk to Kylin and
he will send you through a maze before he helps you (God knows why).
After returning, he will offer to join you party, or he will sell
you Space magic. (SIDE NOTES: You cannot go to Kylin Paradise unless
you have mastered Arcane/Rune magic and Light/Shadow magic. If you
decide to buy spells from Kylin, he will not offer to join your party
again, so beware. If your main character is Blue, he will pick a fight
with Kylin, and kill him to acquire the gift of Space magic (Or die…).

Time
Go to Mosperiburg and ask the mystic there (Virgil) about Time Magic.
Virgil will then ask you if you would like to travel to the Time Lord's
region. Go there, and you will notice that time is stopped there.
A bit further in, you will find a broken hourglass. Search the broken
hourglass (It will say "Fine sand spills into your hand…" or something
to that effect). and then go back to the entrance. After you exit
you will end up in the palace in Mosperiburg again. Go talk to Virgil
again, and she will tell you that pouring time sand over it will fix
it, and that a person names Gozarus (I think?) in Facinaturu could
make you some (Another one of those senseless occurances). She will
then ask you if you want to go to Facinaturu. Say "Yes", and you will
be teleported there. Gozarus's house is on the northern side of town.
Talk to him and buy a Sand Vessel (He takes LP, so be absolutely sure),
then go to the bar and talk to the dude there, and he will tell you
that he knows how to get out of the town. Go to the house on the west
end of town(There should be a slime inside the house). Talk to the
slime inside the house to reveal the passage. The dungeon is really
easy, just a few random battles and no bosses. At the end, the dude
will take you to a city(I forgot which one, either Owmi or Koorong).
Go to Mosperiburg AGAIN, and Virgil will teleport you back to the
Time Lord's region. Go to the hourglass and search and then, everything
will be fixed, woo hoo! Now go to the end where you will find the
Time Lord. When you talk to the Time Lord, he will offer to join you
or sell you Time magic. . (SIDE NOTES: You cannot go to the Time Lord's
region unless you have mastered Arcane/Rune magic and Light/Shadow
magic. If you decide to buy spells from Time Lord, he will not offer
to join your party again, so beware. If your main character is Blue,
he will pick a fight with Time Lord, and kill him to acquire the gift
of Time magic (Or die…).
