Duel Strategy
Everyone once in a while in the game you will be challaged to a one on one duel. In order to win you must guess what attack the enemy is going to use on you. Attack against Defense, Deathblow against Attack, and Defense against Deathblow. Using the same move against each other has different results, with both character attacking gets you both hurt, defense is just a stand still, and deathblow has two heavy damages attacks on you.
Note that duels that are unwinnable are not mentioned here (Melville versus Guillmume, Hugo versus Chris, and Hugo versus Yuber).
Duels from Chris' Chapter
VERUS 
After defeating the lizard clan at Great Hollow in chapter 2, Chris well meet with Luca. If ignore her twice, she will challage you to a duel.
This isn't a easy battle, but if you upgraded her weapon and armor, then you shouldn't have any problem. The duel will not result in game over if lost.

| "I'll withstand your worst." |
| "So you are serious after all. But how serious?" |
| "That won't help us decide who wins." |
| "Where's the sport in this? It's not a battle if you don't fight." |
| "Without caution attack is useless!" |
| She is going to use deathblow. |
| "Ah, just like a little girl. What about this?" |

| "Let's make this the final blow." |
| "My Karaya brethren lend me your strength!" |
| "That wasn't very exciting. Try this!" |

VERUS 
After the lizard clan attacks Iksay Village in chapter 2, Chris will be challaged to a duel by Jimba.
Like the duel with Lucia, you shouldn't have any problem if you remember to upgrade your weapon and armor before the fight. It also helpful to heal up after fighting the lizard army. Do note that will die if you fail to win this duel.

Duels from Hugo's Chapter
VERUS 
When Chisha Village is under attack by Harmonia forces during Chapter 3, if you continue to pretend to be the Flame Champion, then you will be challaged by Sasarai to a duel.
This duel isn't too hard, but you have to remember to upgrade your weapon and armor before the fight. Just read the notes in the quote page above and you should win.

| "You're far too submissive. Try a little aggression." |

| "I don't care to do this all day. Let's finish it." |
| "I won't hold back. Defend yourself!" |
| "You carry the name of Flame Champion? I will prove your unworthiness." |
| "You're a quiet one. Can you withstand this?" |
| "You're far too predictable. And now...I strike." |
Duel from Geddoe's Chapter
VERUS 
When going to meet Salome in North Cavern, you will be challaged to a duel by Duke to see who is the better mercenary.
This is a tricky duel, but it isn't going to kill you if you lose. But still, by chapter 3, you should have good armor on Geddoe, which is enough to withstand Duke blows.

Duel from the Bonus Chapter
VERUS
Near the end of the bonus chapter, your character will be challaged to a duel by Sasarai at the Cememonial Site.
You can't win lose this fight or it gameover, but since your character is way overpower in this chapter, that most likely won't happen.

Duels to Recruit Characters
Flame Champion versus Guillaume 1
VERUS 
Guillaume is chasing after Shabon in the streets of Vinay del Zexay. Time to teach this fat merchant a thing or two.
First off, you should have your character be at the top level with best armor and weapon upgrade. Just remember to follow the quotes he says and counter and you should win. Beating him will allow you to recruit Toppo, Nei, and Shabon.

Flame Champion versus Guillaume 2
VERUS
The last duel wtih Guillaume takes place in Ancient Highway before it gets opened at the end of chapter 4.
Like the previous duel wtih Guillaume, he shouldn't be too hard if you had your character build up their weapon and armor before the fight. After this duel, the fat man will join your 108 Stars.

VERUS 
At the bugrider city of Le Buque, you will meet a young man named Edge with a special sword called the Star Dragon Sword. He wants to give you the sword, but want to challage you first.
Edge isn't too hard to beat, since by the time you get to Le Buque, you should be pretty powerful. After beating Edge, will decide not to give you the sword, but instead join your group.

VERUS 
If you talked to Watari in the castle and received a cutscene, then head to North Cavern and challage Ayame to gain another star.
Easy if Watari has been upgraded before fighting Ayame. After beating her, Ayame will join your army.
