Hugo Chapter 3
There's nothing of interest here; just take the western path to get to Budehuc Castle.
Once you reach Budehuc Castle by going through the Yaza Plains, you notice that it looks less like a castle and more like a run down but peaceful village. Head up to the front of the castle to see a Zexen Council Member demanding that the castle master, Thomas, shut down his businesses immediately. Head to the town gate afterwards and talk with Cecile. She will run to get Thomas. Follow her to be introduced to Thomas, who will invite you inside. He'll explain a bit about the castle, and he'll also deny growing rumors of the Fire Bringer. Then, Thomas offers to let you stay the night for free, but pay anyway; it's a mere 300 potch. The next morning, you'll discover that the Zexens have the castle surrounded. The Zexen Council Member from the day before wants to arrest Hugo, but Thomas won't let him. Go to the courtyard and speak with Thomas and his tenants, and then go to the gate and try to surrender yourself. Unfortunately, the Council member will not believe Hugo is the person who fled from Vinay del Zexay. Go back to the courtyard and Caesar will appear, and explain to Thomas and Hugo that the Zexens are only using Hugo as a reason to attack the castle. You can try to track Thomas down after that to question him further, but he's too busy to talk. For now, just take a rest. In the middle of the night, Thomas and Hugo have a brief chat, and you learn about Thomas' past. In the morning, talk to Caesar in front of the lottery to leave. Watch the battle between Budehuc and the Zexens, and then Hugo and the others will successfully escape to the Yaza Plains.
With Caesar and Apple, make your way across the Yaza Plains. Along the way, you'll fight three groups of Zexen infantry. When you reach the end, Caesar and Apple will bid farewell to Hugo and company, and then leave for Duck Village.
When you get back, Samus and Reed inform Lilly that there may be a Tinto trader at Brass Castle, so they leave to replenish their funds. After a week, Sgt. Joe suggests to Hugo that they go look for them. Put Fubar in your party, and then leave for Brass Castle.
Hugo and Sgt. Joe don't find Lilly anywhere, they meet two new allies: Mua, a knight, and Hallec, a warrior from the north. Watch the dialogue, and then Leo and Roland will exit the castle and recognize Hugo. You can either fight them or run; it's your decision. Hallec and Mua join you, whichever choice you make. However, here's some help if you decide to fight them. Boss Battle: Leo, Roland, two Zexen Knights You should know by now that Leo easily does the most damage out of the four knights. Fortunately, Hallec and Mua can both take a lot of punishment before going down. Hallec has a great Unite attack with Fubar, so use it on Leo. Hugo and Sgt. Joe should use water and wind magic, and attack when necessary. Be sure to heal. Since you're not sure where to go afterwards, head back to Great Hollow.
When you arrive back at Great Hollow, you won't see Lilly, Samus, or Reed, but you'll see Apple talking with some lizard men. Upon seeing Hugo again, she says that Chisha Village is about to be attacked by a small force from Harmonia, and she asks you to go help the small, defenseless village of the Six Clans. Hallec and Mua both agree to accompany you. Use the Ancient Highway to get to Chisha Village faster, but before leaving, uprade Hallec and Mua's weapons, and train them at the Bujitsu teacher in Great Hollow; you won't get another chance. Apple will accompany you as a guest in your party.
Again, nothing important to see here, but you might encounter one of the 108 stars if Nei, Toppo, and Shabon have already joined you.
Behind the Inn, you may find Sanae Y. of the 108 stars. Other than that, you should rest and buy supplies for your party. Now, head to the new area that has opened up.
If you have five people (Hugo, Sgt. Joe, Fubar, Hallec, and Mua) in your party, then you can acquire Landis here (see the 108 stars page). You'll encounter some new, and probably some stronger monsters in this forest. Don't use any magic in fights; you'll need it for Chisha Village.
The first thing you see when you reach the hill overlooking the small village is that it's under attack by Harmonians, and several defenders are barely holding them off. Charge down the hill towards the town. You'll battle two groups of Harmonian soliders and one group of Mantor Legionnaires. Then, your group will yell out battle cries, and, noticing the timely reinforcements Chisha Village has, the Harmonians will retreat.
At the center of Chisha Village, you'll find Sana, the leader of Chisha Village, who passes on her thanks. You'll also see Caesar with the defenders, as well as Chris, in travelers' clothes. Hugo will recognize her, and suddenly draw his sword to avenge Lulu. Before you have the chance to fight, Nash, one of the other defenders, stops Hugo. After the dialogue ends, rest and save at the Inn. You might be able to recruit some stars now, including Emily, Hortez VII, and Wan Fu. When you want to proceed with the story, attempt to leave, and you'll see Albert (the man in the white coat) and Yuber (the man in black). After the discussion between them, Hugo duels Yuber. Duel: Hugo vs. Yuber No matter what you do, there is no way to win this fight, so just attack and wait for Yuber to annihilate you.
Hugo wakes up in a bed in the Inn, and Sgt. Joe fills him in on what happened. Sgt. Joe also informs Hugo that the Harmonian army has returned, this time with more troops. Fortunately, Caesar has a plan. The Grassland army is coming to help, and you need to stall for time. So, Caesar and Apple accompany you to the Harmonian army, which is standing in front of Chisha Village. Caesar then tells Sasarai, a Harmonian Bishop and the leader of the army, that Hugo is the Flame Champion. Hugo then challenges any Harmonian to combat. The soldiers are rather reluctant, so Sasarai challenges you himself. Duel: Hugo vs. Sasarai Unlike the battle with Yuber, this is much easier. It also helps that Sasarai is normally a magician. See the "Duels" section of this shrine for some more help.
After winning the duel, you learn that the Grassland army has arrived. The Harmonians promptly run. Afterwards, the Karayans, led by Luce, Beecham, and Lucia, as well as the Lizards under Bazba, Shiba, and Dupa arrive as well. After some talking, Hugo tells Sana that he wants to defend Grasslands, just as the Flame Champion once did. Sana tells Hugo the location of the Flame Champion's hideout, and the Grasslanders, who stay in Chisha Village, bid you farewell. Take with you Sgt. Joe, Fubar, Hallec, Mua, and if you've gotten her, Emily.
The Flame Champion's Hideaway is a mazework of cavern tunnels. If this is your first time inside the Flame Champion Hideaway, there are plenty of treasure chests to be found; and some tough enemies, too. At the far end of the Flame Champion Hideaway, there is a tough mini boss called Nemesis, which gives you plenty of loot and some good items as well. If you want to proceed directly with the story, go left at the first fork, and go left again to the dead end. Hugo steps onto the mysterious platform and is teleported deeper into the Flame Champion Hideaway, leaving his comrades behind.
Hugo finds himself in a long hallway lit with torches and lined with massive pillars. There's nothing to be found; go through the two hallways to the great door at the end. Open the door to end Hugo's chapter 3, and to see a familiar face as well... |
