The Bosses

Here is a list of the Bosses in The Legend of Zelda. Bear in mind that some bosses are repeated in the later levels and also that some former bosses appear as "sub-bosses" in other levels.

Aquamentus
Dungeon One - The Eagle
Description: A big dragon thing with a single horn on its head.
How does it attack?: It walks back and forth (but not very far) and shoots three fireballs across the room.
How do I defeat it?: Get a good distance away from it so you can dodge its fire and start shooting it with your sword. If you get hit then walk up to it and swing away. Takes about six sword hits.
Extra Info: Arrows are very useful against Aquamentus too, if you buy them that early.

Dodongo
Dungeon Two - The Moon
Description: A relatively nimble armored triceratops.
How does it attack?: It roams around the screen hoping to hit you.
How do I defeat it?: Wait until it has almost run into you, then drop a bomb. He will eat it and swell up as it explodes. Do this twice and the Dodongo is no more.
Extra Info: The Dodongo appears later on in the game as a sub-boss in Dungeons 5 and 7.

Manhandla
Dungeon Three - The Manji
Description: A four-headed Venus flytrap thing.
How does it attack?: It runs around the room shooting fireballs and trying to hit you.
How do I defeat it?: The best strategy is to use your bombs, time your placement so you can get him with one or two blasts.
Extra Info: You need to strike off all of his heads to kill him. His fireballs are unblockable too. The Manhandla appears later on in the game as a sub-boss in Dungeons 4 and 8.

Two-Headed Gleeok
Dungeon Four - The Snake
Description: A two-headed fireball-spewing head-flying Dragon.
How does it attack?: It stands in one place and shoots fireballs at you. Also, its chopped-off heads fly around the room, also shooting fireballs.
How do I defeat it?: Attack its heads with your sword. The first head will take five white sword hits, the second one three strikes.
Extra Info: The Gleeok appears later on in the game as a sub-boss in Dungeon 6 as a Three-Headed Gleeok.

Digdogger
Dungeon Five - The Lizard
Description: A giant mushy eye.
How does it attack?: It doesn't attack much. When it gets small it starts moving quickly and tries to hit you.
How do I defeat it?: First, blow on the Recorder, that will shrink it down to a small size. Then two strikes from the Magic Sword will finish it off.
Extra Info: The statues in Digdogger's room also shoots fireballs at you, block or dodge them. The Digdogger appears later on in the game as a sub-boss in Dungeon 7.

Gohma
Dungeon Six - The Dragon
Description: A giant spider with one eye.
How does it attack?: It moves left and right and occassionally up and down while firing one fireball at a time at you.
How do I defeat it?: Whip out your bow and arrow shoot it in the eyeball when it opens its eyelid. One shot to the eye should down this big bad arachnid.
Extra Info: The Gohma appears later on in the game as a sub-boss in Dungeon 8 as a Blue Gohma.

Aquamentus (Revisited)
Dungeon Seven - The Demon
Description: A big dragon thing with a single horn on its head.
How does it attack?: It walks back and forth (but not very far) and shoots three fireballs across the room.
How do I defeat it?: Same as the one in the first dungeon. Get a good distance away from it so you can dodge its fire and start shooting it with your sword. If you get hit then walk up to it and swing away. Takes about two sword hits from the Magical Sword.
Extra Info: Bombs are very useful against Aquamentus too. Two bombs near its head will do in this dragon.

Four-Headed Gleeok
Dungeon Eight - The Lion
Description: A four-headed fireball-spewing head-flying Dragon.
How does it attack?: It stands in one place and shoots fireballs at you. Also, its chopped-off heads fly around the room, also shooting fireballs.
How do I defeat it?: Attack its heads with your sword. The first head will take three Magical Sword hits. The second, third, and fourth head will take two Magical Sword hits each.
Extra Info: This is the strongest Gleeok you will battle in the game.

Ganon
Dungeon Nine - Death Mountain
Description: The biggest and baddest warthog of Hyrule.
How does it attack?: He attacks with fireballs at you while invisible.
How do I defeat it?: Attack in the general area of where the last fireball came from. If you are lucky enough you will hit him and he will appear momentarily then disappear again. You will need to do this four times. On the fourth hit to Ganon, he will this time appear redish-brown. This is the time to hit him with the bow and arrow. One shot from the silver arrows will do in this evil doer.
Extra Info: You can walk over the black areas in Ganon's chamber.
