BahamutXero's Strategies

Domestic

1) Generally go for a Capital or City Hall as fast as I can and worry about army later, that is unless it is a time-restricted map. Armies waiting in their creature dwellings do you no good if you can’t afford them. Here’s the fastest way:

Day 1: Town Hall
Day 2: Mage Guild I
Day 3: Blacksmith
Day 4: Marketplace
Day 5: City Hall
Day 6: Citadel
Day 7: Castle
Day 8: Capitol

If you really want to get army fast in the beginning follow this building pattern:

Day 1: Town Hall
Day 2: New creature generator
Day 3: New creature generator
Day 4: Citadel
Day 5: Mage Guild I
Day 6: Blacksmith
Day 7: Marketplace
Day 8: City Hall

This way you should be able to get your Castle and Capitol later and still have some army in reserve. Like I said, this is the better way to go on smaller maps.

2) Be really careful with your early pre-upgraded army, upgrade them before going far. The upgraded stats and special abilities are often worth the extra turns and costs.

3) Use the market place, especially if you only need a few resources or a couple hundred gold to build a higher level creature dwelling even if leaves you with nearly nothing.

4) If you encounter an opponent early, build a castle, especially on a small map. Eventually you’ll want to anyway to increase creature dwellings and get the capitol (see #1) but the extra turrets at the Castle can be the deciding factor in a siege if the opposition doesn’t have Ballistics or Earthquake.

Heroes

1) I suggest mastering one skill when leveling up before starting a new one. On the basic levels the skills can be useful but Expert level skills are much more likely to significantly help you.

2) Generally, just because a Hero started out as a Might or Magic Hero doesn’t mean they have to stay that way. For instance if a Knight starts getting a lot of Spell Power or Knowledge when leveling up, accommodate that. Start giving him spell skills as well. Remember the name of the game is “Heroes of Might AND Magic” not “Heroes of Might OR Magic”.

3) Have your Death Knights or Necromancers learn Expert Necromancy as soon as possible if your main castle is a Necropolis. Hordes of Skeleton Warriors are stronger than you think

Magic

1) Get Wisdom and Intelligence as soon as possible! A single high-level spell like Blind, Berserk, or even Chain Lightning can turn the tide of a battle in your favor. Expert intelligence allows for your Heroes to spend days or even weeks without recharging magic points. Combine it with a Dungeon’s Mana Vortex and it’s even better.

2) Get Air and Earth Magic; as soon as possible you’re your Magic Heroes. They not only make the spells stronger but cheaper to cast as well. Mass Haste and Mass Slow are great battle openers. Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and Meteor Shower become very potent when cast by a Magic Hero with these skills.

3) Early on when your army is weak, trust your magic if you have a Magic Hero. Even low level attack spells like Magic Arrow, Lightning Bolt, and Ice Bolt can take out small stacks of low level creatures that may be guarding your mines in the first turns in the game.

Combat

1) Protect your ranged attackers at all costs. They don’t have to worry about retaliation. Use your low to mid level ground troops as shields for them while your high level troops go after the opposition’s ranged troops.

2) On the first turn, if the opposition uses mostly slow units that don’t move only half way across the battlefield, wait! Have them come to you, and then you can attack them first and hopefully wipe them out before they can retaliate.

3) If possible, attack the unit that is the closest to doing the most damage to your army. If you need to use your strongest unit first to soak up the retaliation then have your lower level creatures surround and pummel it to death. This works well on almost all creatures except those with unlimited retaliation like Royal Griffins.

Multiplayer

1) On the first turn, if your opponent(s) chose to be random, use Control+I to see what kind of castle they got.

2) Use a guinea pig Hero to try to find the opposition as soon as possible, this way you can spy on them and know what they are doing and not pull any surprises on you.

3) If your opponents chat a lot between turns, chances are they might slip out something about their strategy so read their messages carefully.
