Fishing

You can only begin fishing, once you have a Fishing Rod. It's the only upgradeable tool in the game in which you do not start out with. To obtain it, visit Zack's place a couple of times with an empty Tool slot. You'll eventually receive it. If you go to any body of water, you can use your Fishing Rod if you cast it in. Once a "!" appears over the head of your character, hit B to reel in your line. If you do it quickly enough, you'll get an item. It can either be junk, a fish, or a valuable item. To catch certain sizes of fish (there are three sizes: small, medium, and large) and items, you'll need to upgrade your Fishing Rod. Check out the Tools section for all the details. Holding B for different amounts of times will trigger the different levels of your rod, each being able to catch certain things.

Fishing List
The fishing list below shows all 51 fishes and is broken into 5 sections. The first is Fished Items, which are 4 valuable items you are able to reel in with a Level 5 or 6 rod. The second is Small Fishes, the third is Medium Fishes, the fourth is Large Fishes, and the fifth is King Fishes. In the last 4 sections, the charts are listed in alphabetical order. An asterisk (*) next to a fish's name indicates that fish comes in other sizes and is therefore listed in another chart. It will also tell you which season and the location each fish can be caught.

There are 5 places in which you can fish, each home to different types of fish. They are:

Sea: Mineral Beach.
Lake: The huge lake south of Mother Hill.
Downstream: The stream that runs around your farm.
Upstream: The river that connects to the Lake south of Mother Hill.
Pond: The pond next to the Spring Mine. (Where the Harvest Goddess lives)
