Part 1: Heart Island

At the beginning of the game, you will be asked to name the protagonist. You can enter up to 6 letters, or just push B to enter the default name, Ray.

You begin the game in Ray's House, on Heart Island, in the center of the world. Get the treasures (look up the Treasures page to find all the hidden items), then step outside.
Outside, you'll find some guys you can talk to. They suggest you look for a traveling man in Likado, the town to the east.
Be sure to talk to this guy until he gives you two free Plum-Plums. They'll recover a little HP when you eat them.
A few paces to the east, you'll enter the town of Likado. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the shops. Most towns have a weapon shop, an armor shop, and an item shop. You will often meet a man named Uncle Save, who will of course save your game.
Very important in the early parts of the game, look for open beds, such as this one in Uncle Save's house. If you can climb into a bed, you can rest to recover full HP for all party members.
With only 50 smackers (from the pot in Ray's house) to spend, there's not much you can buy. Just the NomalHat. You'll want to save up for the ShrtSwrd (120G) and the HardSuit (320G). If you're planning ahead, you may want an extra HardSuit for your future companion (they can use the Suit and a ShrtSwrd, but you won't be able to buy them).
Once upon a time, there was old lady with so many cats, she didn't know what to do.
Didn't know one of them was evil. You can fight the Cat Boo. If you bought a NomalHat, or a Bread or two, you should survive, for a free level-up. Or skip it, 16 Exp. and 6 Gold isn't a ton.
When you're ready to proceed, enter the southeast house. There you'll find David, the journeyman. He'll tell you that you need to find the Actos Star quickly. He tells you to search the nearby mountains.
Leave town and you will now be able to enter the mountain range shown here.
After walkthrough a simple cave, you will come to this room.
Step on the strange tile in the middle.
Ray will visit his father's spirit.
Ray will obtain the StarCrest. He will gain MP, and be able to use magic. If you have gained any experience levels, Ray will now learn any spells he should've learned previously. Remember this spot, because standing on this tile is the only way to recover MP while on Heart Island.
David will approach you. He will tell you this is the first step, and to call Kustera any time you need help. David will become the first member of your Kustera party, which you can now control with the Swap command on the main menu. David will also tell you to find the Homncruse follower in Jeep Volcano, to the east.
If you want a little fun with Kustera, Swap. Then try talking to people, and see if their conversation changes.
That boy ain't right!
You probably want to buy a couple Antidotes. While Bad Slime is the only enemy around here that can poison you, and you can kill it one hit, it's better to be safe. Poisoning causes you to lose 1 HP each turn in battle, as well as 1 HP for every eight steps outside of battle.
When you're ready to proceed, enter the other mountain range in the northeast corner of Heart Island. You'll reach Jeep Volcano.
As the guy at the entrance told you, there will be two different-colored lights. The green gates can be opened by Kustera. Just approach them and press A to open. Most of the time, the green gates block off treasure chests with junk items. Check the treasure list to determine if it's worth your while.
Most often, the yellow gates (which can be opened by approaching them as Aqutallion) will lead towards the bosses. Just drive Ray up to the gate, and press A to open it. Go past the gate, and continue to the next room.
Climb up the linear, foggy path.
Head to the east side of the mouth of the volcano.
Inside the core of the volcano, grab the three treasures if you want, then head to the west and south sides of the room to find the doorway to continue.
Using the bed to restore your HP, reach about level 7 or 8.
When you're ready, talk to the mad scientist. Learn about his foul plan to destroy Heart Island, if you couldn't have guessed.
At your level, you can probably just smack him until he's down. He'll breathe fire and gas, but they shouldn't do much damage. Just eat Bread/Plum-plums, or cast Heal if you get low on HP.
Curse you!
Nothing like soft, puffy clouds of nitroglicerine.
BEWM!
A mysterious man called Bosen rescues you with his airplane. In case you forgot, he'll remind you that Homncruse killed your father and you need to go medieval on him to return the favor.
He'll even give you a lift to your dream vacation spot: an old shrine in the middle of nowhere.
Ray better use his superkid sonar to make some friends.
As well as the other 10 Kustera.
And a bunch of people who want to live in the boonies.
Get to it, soldier!
