Cassolari
Thanks to Chime the way to Pindale is now open. The path to it is south east of the Thunder Pig.
Directly east from entering Pindale is Sterm and Melody's house. Pick up the wrench, and watch the following scence.
Cross the bridge and follow the river's north bank to reach Cassolari's house. It's past the golden arch and the tree stump with a heart carved in it. The wizard seems to be locked out and ask Merlin if he could find his Gold Key.
North of Cassolari's house is a hedge maze with some useful items inside. Hedge Monsters will pop out every now and then. Just use the Stun Dust and Shooting Star. Be careful because the close passages make it easy to pin Merlin against a wall.
The maze isn't too hard to figure out. The key is in the eastern section of the maze.
In the north east most corner is another Heart Piece. Just walk through the wall to get it.
In the middle of the maze is a little courtyard. By the pot of flowers is a Rose. The fountain gives clear water so heal up if needed.
In the western section of the maze is another false wall. Enter and follow the path for another empty bottle.
Go back to Cassolai to return the key. In gratitude he gives Merlin, a fish bowl. He then explains that he would like a cave herring as a pet.
The best place to get cave herring is in a cave, so head back to the mine and use the wrench on the old cart. Pick up the wheel that comes off and head inside. This time around it will be exlored more.
From the entrance head north. Climb up one ladder and head west as far as Merlin can go. Then head up another ladder, head west a bit, and then climb another ladder. West of that area is a another false wall that leads to a heart container.
Now directly west of the heart chamber is another false wall. This one leads to the final empty bottle.
Now directly south of the veriticle brocken track before the entrance to the bottle room is another false wall. Walk through it and use the Balloon to get another heart container.
Now for the fun stuff. In the north west most cornerof the mine is this cart. Get there avoiding the drawves, using the balloon, and if you feel lucky climb into the "Danger" shaft. Merlin will either find a (random) path to another "Danger" shaft or be eaten alive by somthing. (Rats?) At the cart, equip with Wheel and use it on the cart.
The mine cart sections are the best and worst part of the game. Manuever as best you can and cheat if you must. See Mine Cart for a map. Along the way is Heart Container on the track by a horizontal jump, as dipicted. Get it before you finish the cart otherwise it is out of reach permanetly.
The object of this cart is to reach the northern wall of the south west corner of the mine. If you reach a long stretch of track to the west, past the first northern turn, and then Merlin is home free. At that point the cart will crash and reveal a cave.
Inside the cave is a subterrean lake, which is where the fishes live. Merlin cannot fight enemies here so avoid them. If Merlin aproaches a grotto either a Mermaid or Piranha will appear. Aproach the Merlin to replenish you air. They appear in the same places so remember where they are.
In the northwest corner of the lake is a light shaft like the entrance. Use the Balloon to exit the lake.
The shaft will bring Merlin to the entrance to the Underground Palace. He cannot get across yet, but there is a useful Blue Jewel there. Grab it and back track to the Rainbow Pool. It will give Merlin the useful Air Bubble. There will be another Meanwhile scence, showing that the Dwarves have increased security.
With the Air Bubble Merlin can now explore the lake more easiliy. In the north east corner there is another Heart Container.
In middle of the western edge of the lake is another heart container. It is by some bubble jets.
In the south west corner of the lake is a herring. The passage to it is blocked by a bubble jet. Wait for it to subside before crossing.
With the herring in the bowl head back to Cassolari. Don't faint while still in the lake otherwise Merlin will drop the fish. In reward of his tireless efforts Cassolari gives Merlin ... a Spring.
The Spring is used to vault accross the gap in fron of the Dwarven Palace. Before heading there make sure Merlin fills his bottles with Clear, Blue, and Rainbow water. Theses are found in the Tulip, Daisy, and Rainbow pools respectively. When Merlin gets across the Lady of the Lake will grant another password.
