Character Creation
Ready to begin? Let's do it! In the interest of making a
complete walkthrough, I'll start this off with character creation, the
first major step in becoming a Hero. And the first major step in
creating a character is choosing what class you want to play.
Your class will affect the solutions to many puzzles in the game, and
generally how you'll want to interact with your environment.
Check out the Classes page for more
details on the three classes.
Now that you've chosen a class, it's time to spend those 50 points
you've been generously given. This part really doesn't matter in
the long run--I'll tell you throughout the walkthrough how to improve
any skill from 5 to 100. But bumping them up a bit in the
beginning will help you save some time, so by all means spend
them! If you're not sure what a particular ability does, take a
look at the Character Sheet page for a
description. If you're still not sure, here's some class-by-class
advice:
Fighter: Strength, Vitality, and Weapon Use are your primary
stats, in that order. If you're eager to get into battles as soon
as possible, bump these up a bit. Intelligence is going to be
your hardest stat to raise through practice, but fortunately it isn't
all that important.
Magic-User: Magic and Intelligence should be your focus
throughout the game, and I like to start with both of them around
40. You might also want to put a few points into Strength,
simply for the convenience of being able to carry more junk, and
possibly Agility and Vitality, to get your HP and SP up a bit.
Thief: Wow!! Look at all those skills! Thieves are
unique in that they are the only class able to learn every
ability. If you're interested in being able to do everything you
possibly can, put some points into Parry and Magic, then spend your
remaining 10 points as you see fit. For a pure Thief, I recommend
bumping up Strength to 20, and putting the rest in Agility, Vitality,
and Stealth.
Last, but certainly not least, give your
Hero-in-training a name. This can be your real name, an alias,
something that sounds good, something that doesn't sound good, one
word, five words, a random jumble of button-mashing... anything up to
39 characters.
Once you're finished with that, it's onward to Spielburg!
