Characters
This page contains information on all 8 types of characters you can
play as (or recruit) throughout the game. Also, you can only pick
up as many characters as your main character's current level.
Meaning, if you are level 2, you can only recruit 2 characters in
total, level 3 - 3 characters, and so on. If your party consists
of 4 people already and you try to recruit someone else, they will tell
you that they will wait in Castle Britannia's Hostel. To see a
list of how to start off as the character of your choosing, refer to
the
Character Creation section. |

MAGE
|
|
Starting Town
|
MoonGlow |
The
Mage character is one of the weakest characters in the game
physically wise, but more than makes up for it as being the best magic
user in the game. Aside from that, she can use one of the
strongest
weapons in the game... Wand (after, the +2 Axe & Sword of
Paradise). If you are not playing the game as a Mage, she can be
picked up here as Mariah. She'll be waiting in the N part of
town,
right above the bridge. |

BARD
|
|
Starting Town |
Britain |
The
Bard is a semi-decent character to play with, being an okay fighter
(he can use weapons like +1 Bow & +2 Sword, very nice) and is a
fair magic user (his mp is kinda low, but can still beat @ss). If
you
are not playing the game as a Bard, he can be picked up here as
Iolo.
He will be waiting in the SE corner of town (across the bridge, sitting
next to a campfire). |

FIGHTER
|
|
Starting Town |
Jhelom |
The
Fighter is one of the best fight-type character in the game, but is
completely useless in the area of magic (unless you make him an Avatar,
in which case, his mp rockets up to 99). He is also the only
character
that is able to use the 2nd strongest weapon in the game, the Axe of
Legend (+2 Axe). If you are not playing as the Fighter, he can be
picked up here as Geoff. He will be waiting in the Central part
of
town (in the room next door to the inn, standing next to a bed. |

DRUID
|
|
Starting Town |
Yew |
Like
the Bard, the Druid is also a semi-decent character to play with.
She's a okay battler, but she tends to lean more towards the magical
side
of combat, but isn't as strong magical-wise as the Mage is.. but close
enough. Like the Mage, she can also use the Wand weapon, which
can
double as a handheld weapon & a projectile weapon.. really
nice.
If you are not playing the game as a Druid, she can be picked up here
as
Janna. She will be waiting in the NW part of town (enter the
northern
wooded area in town, and start searching until you find a Druid
standing next to a campfire). |

TINKER
|
|
Starting Town |
Minoc |
The
Tinker's class is basically a warrior-type class: he is a okay
combatant (not as good as a Fighter, Paladin or Ranger, but better than the
Bard), but is extremely poor in the ways of magic (he can use
magic, but just barely). He can use a pretty decent amount of
weapons
& armor, which is what's good about this character, but that's
about it. If you are not playing the game as a Tinker, he can be
picked up here as Julius. He will be wating in the NE part of
town
(walk all the way across town, and turn up into the room with no roof
over it, a Tinker will be waiting near the opening). |

PALADIN
|
|
Starting Town |
Trinsic |
The
Paladin, in my opinion, is the best character you can play as.
Not
only is he a really good fighter-type character, but he can also use
magic, not well as the Mage or Druid, but I make up for that by making
him the Avatar (mp maxes out at 99). He can also use most weapons
and
armors, which makes him pretty versatile. If you are not playing
the
game as a Paladin, he can be picked up here as Dupre. He will be
waiting in the NW part of town (enter the first building to the N, he
will be sitting at a table in the town Pub). |

RANGER

|
Starting Town |
Skara
Brae |
The
Ranger is also a fairly good character to plays as. He can fight
pretty well, and can use magic just as equally. Like the Bard, he
can
also use really nice equipment (+1 Bow, +2 Sword). If you are not
playing as a Ranger, he can be picked up here as Shamino. He will
be
waiting in the Center of town (he is the Ranger who is standing right
next to the Silver Ankh in the center of town). |

SHEPHERD
|
|
Starting Town |
Magincia |
This
character is, by far, the worst character you can play as. I do
not reccomend starting out as this character, unless you really want a
challenge. This character is not only physcially weaker than all
the
other classes (other than the Mage), but she also cannot use magic
(unless you make her the Avatar). On top of that, she can only
equip
the staff, club, sling, cloth & robe... which is, truely, NOT very
good equipment (except for Robe, 2nd strongest armor in game).
Making
her the Avatar as soon as possible can offset her cheapness by being
able to equip the Avatar gear, plus getting 99 Mp. If you are not
playing as a Shepherd, she will be waiting for you here as
Katrina.
She is waiting in the SW part of town (right when you enter town, go
directly S, pass over the poison pits and go down the stairs, she is
waiting in the following room). |
