Hugo Chapter 1

Location
Karaya Clan Village

After the dialogue, explore the Karayan village if you want, and then go towards the hut nearest to the village entrance, where'll you meet Jimba. Luce, Lulu's mother, and Lucia, Hugo's mother, will also join the conversation. Lucia asks you to deliver a message to the Zexen Council, and Fubar, Sgt. Joe, and Lulu agree to accompany you. Head towards the village entrance, but Jimba intercepts you, and gives you a Pentacle to deliver to the Lightfellow family in Vinay del Zexay, as well a message for them. Now, set off for Zexen.

Location
Plain Amur

There's nothing really to do here; although the scenery is impressive. Fight some monsters if you want.

Location
Brass Castle

Brass Castle doesn't have any plot twists, but as you pass through the castle itself, you'll run into Chris and her knights. Use the tutor in Brass Castle; Hugo and Sgt. Joe could use some training for their magic skills. Other than that, there really isn't much to do; a lot of the better wares can be found later.
Location
Zexen Forest

In Zexen Forest, there are some slightly tougher monsters, and you may run into Fred and Rico for a minor scene. There are budding herbs on the ground, and it's advised to leave them alone; they'll grow into something more useful later on. Other than that, there isn't much to do here.

Location
Vinay del Zexay

You're finally here; the Zexen capital, Vinay del Zexay. Fubar will stay outside while Hugo, Sgt. Joe, and Lulu go in/ There's a lot of stuff to do. First of all, visit the blacksmith, and buy some items if you need to. Then, visit the Lightfellow residence, the mansion in west Vinay del Zexay. Chris' butler will take the Pentacle for you, and you can choose to either take a cash reward for the delivery, or just be noble and refuse the reward. Make sure you've saved up to this point, as well. Now, go to the Zexen Council Building (the enormous building in the center of the city) and speak to the guard. Apparently, the council is not accepting a messenger. So, you can go back and rest at the Inn, or you can take on a side quest.

Side Quest
The Saint Loa Knights

Go into the marketplace near the Inn, move through the market, and you'll hit a cut scene that shows Melville and Guillaume arguing. Head for the Rune Sage, and you'll see a scene with Alanis and Elliot. Remember the password they mentioned, and go into the alleyway in the southwestern part of the city. Climb the ladders and knock on the "gate". Say the correct password to get inside. After some chatting between the group, you decide to help look for Melville's father. Melville and Alanis join your party as fighters, and Elliot joins as a support character.

Location
Side Quest Area: North Cavern

You'll fight some bandits in the North Cavern, but they aren't much of a challenge. Just keep your health up. A short way into the caves, your group decides to take a rest. After you're recharged, descend into the center of the cavern. Along the way, you'll fight some more bandits. When you get to the center of the cavern, Guillaume will drop a gate, cutting Hugo, Sgt. Joe, and Lulu off from Melville, Alanis, and Elliot. Hugo and the others will have to fight some more bandits, while Melville duels with Guillaume. After being defeated, Elliot and Alanis raise the gate, and Guillaume runs off. Go back to Vinay del Zexay, where Hugo, Sgt. Joe, and Lulu separate from Melville, Alanis, and Elliot.

Location
Vinay del Zexay (continued)

Visit the guard again, but you won't get any luck. Go back and rest at the Inn, and try again. Nope. Once again, go back to the Inn, rest, and visit the guard. This time, you'll be allowed in. A Zexen Council member comes to you and asks you to give him the message to present to the Zexen Council. Arguing that you must present it yourself won't do any good; so just give it to him and get it overwith.

Location
Vinay del Zexay (Nightfall)

At night, Hugo, Sgt. Joe, and Lulu all have a conversation in the room. All three of them are tired of Zexen rudeness, and Lulu opts to leave tomorrow at dawn. However, a noise outside reveals that the Zexen Knights have different plans. Percival and Leo, two Zexen Knights, are apparently under orders to arrest Hugo and the others. They enter the room to find that Hugo and the others have escaped through the window. Once you regain control of Hugo, run for the main gates, but you'll be stopped by the Zexens. Now, you'll have to battle two Zexen knights and two Zexen infantry. The infantry have 100 HP and shouldn't be too much trouble, but the knights have 200 HP and can cause some major hurt. With Sgt. Joe, use Breath of Ice, and when you need healing, use Kindness Drops. With Hugo, use Sleeping Wind and Healing Wind if neccessary. Attack with Lulu. Once you defeat the knights, continue toward the city entrance. You'll be attacked again by Zexen knights, this time from both sides, but if you use the same strategy, you should be okay. Once you reach the gate, Percival, Leo, and two Zexen knights reach you. Percival and Leo explain why they're after you, and demand that you to surrender. Selecting "There's no reason to believe you!" will skip a fight, but selecting "Not a chance!" will trigger a battle. Either way, Fubar will swoop down, knock the knights away, and clear the route for you.

Boss Battle: Percival, Leo, and two Zexen knights

If you choose to fight Percival and Leo, it's not likely either side will win before the battle automatically concludes, but use Breath of Ice and focus on Percival, as he as a Water Rune and is the most dangerous. Leo can also do some major damage, but the Zexen knights shouldn't be doing too much from the recent fights you had.

Location
Zexen Forest and Brass Castle

You won't find anything in Zexen Forest, so just go straight on to Brass Castle. Hugo notices that the castle seems normal, despite the events going on. Fubar flies to the other side to wait for you. Everything SEEMS normal, until you reach the castle, where a barrier is set up. As Hugo and the others reach it, Percival and Leo ride in and recognize you. Hugo, Sgt. Joe, and Lulu are chased into the kitchen, and accidentally discover a hidden passageway.

Location
Underground Passage

The underground passage is straightforward, but it has some tough monsters, so be careful. However, they also give you considerable amounts of experience. Fight them as you walk through the passageway. Eventually, you'll reach the end, and you'll climb out outside of Brass Castle, where Fubar lands to greet you, convincing you that you are in the direction of Karaya Clan Village.

Location
Plain Amur

Dusk is falling in Plain Amur, and as Hugo, Sgt. Joe, Fubar, and Lulu walk through the plains, they notice smoke rising on the horizon, which isn't a good sign. Hurry back to Karaya Clan Village.

Location
Destroyed Karaya Clan Village

Karaya Clan Village is burning! There are bodies of Karayans everywhere, and according to Hugo, the wounds are from Zexen swords. Walk into the village, which is mostly fire now, to see a familiar face: Chris. Approach Chris to trigger a cut scene...

Location
Ruins of Karaya Clan Village

The next day you will be buring the body of one your fallen allies, who was killed fighting against Chris. After Hugo is done talking, his first chapter will end.
